Ma Strength Level 1 Seminar

Chinese weightlifting techniques are coming to central Texas for the first time ever! This is a practical, hands-on seminar that introduce the fundamental elements behind Chinese weightlifting technique to improve snatch, clean, and jerk technique under the guidance of expert coaches at Ma Strength. 

Additionally, Austin Barbell will provide an optional training session the following day to apply the principles you learned


  • Learn Chinese weightlifting technique using the professional Chinese learning progression for the snatch, clean, and jerk,

  • Have your lifting evaluated individually and within a group setting to learn from others, and

  • Practice this style of lifting with weights attendees feel comfortable with while receiving verbal cues from experienced coaches.

  • The technique seminar is also approved by the NASM and eligble for 0.7 CEU for CPTs.

  • Have the option to apply your knowledge in a training environment

  • All attendees should expect to learn Chinese weightlifting methods as taught in sports schools throughout China. This seminar is open to athletes and coaches of all levels who want to improve their ability to perform the lifts and coaches who want to learn an alternative way of approaching the snatch, clean, and jerk. Olympic weightlifters, Cross Fitters, trainers, and coaches are welcomed. Participants can also observe the seminar if they wish not to lift.

**(PREREQUISITE: One must have attended a Ma Strength Level 1 Seminar in order to participate in the Day 2 training session with Ma Strength)

Physical Requirments

  • Note: This seminar teaches material that may be new to many individuals regardless of experience level; however you must be able to overhead squat, front squat, and be able to perform a full snatch and full clean with an empty bar in order to participate fully.

1 Hour introductory training program

This is a beginner focused learning of the basic technical execution of several Olympic Weightlifting exercises related to the Clean & Jerk.

Goals of This Program

  • Give athletes a short overview of the some of the basic exercises

  • Give athletes the opportunity to have fun and engage with fellow athletes

  • Motivate young athletes to start Olympic Weightlifting

USAW Combine High-School Series

USAW Combine High-School Series

Austin Barbell is excited to host the USA Weightlifting combine series events in Austin on January 12th 2019. This testing event is one of the latest recruitment projects aiming to find weightlifting’s next Olympic hopeful. The Combine is open to athletes ages between the ages of 12 and 24. Each combine will include the following events

- 30m sprint

- Vertical jump

- Triple hop

- Power clean

- Back squat

The combine series is free to attend, and members of USA Weightlifting are encouraged to invite friends, family, and classmates!

The final two hours of the combine will consist of a weightlifting fundamentals session to go over the basics of the snatch and the clean and jerk for athletes with little or no experience with the Olympic lifts. 

Top athletes will be contacted at the end of the combine series with an invitation to attend a USA Weightlifting camp in the summer of 2019. Follow this link to register for a combine near you:

Chinese Method - Split Jerk Clinic

China has dominated the sport of Olympic Weightlifting since the 1980s. The Chinese weightlifing system is highly detailed and based on tactical coaching. Join us for a 3 hour clinic on the split jerk where we will be focusing on the Chinese split jerk and highlighting the foundational differences between the various styles. This will be a detailed hands-on, intructor led clinic with a low coach to athlete ratio, with all Instruction will be taught by the Austin Barbell coaching team. We are capping the session at 9 athletes to ensure that all attendees get adequate attention.

  • Technical analysis of your current technique

  • Chinese split jerk attributes

  • Corrective accessory exercises

  • Technique development drills 

  • Learn the biomechanics necessary to perform a proper split jerk
